Can You Take The Punches?

Running a business takes brain and brawn. You need to have the brains to understand the ins and outs of your business. You can't just fly by the seat of your pants. You need to be able to muscle your way through the ups and downs of your business as well. In the end, you need to ask yourself: Do I have what it takes to run a business?

Let's talk about your brain for a minute. Your brain is not only a vital part of your body, but it is also a vital part of your business. Increasing in knowledge, researching your market, and growing daily are some keys to your success.

1. Increasing in knowledge: You should be seeking to increase your business know-how daily. Do you need help keeping finances straight? Sign up for a night class at your local community college. Do you need to learn more about a particular area in your business? Reach out to fellow entrepreneurs. The key is to use the resources that are available to you.

2. Researching your market: What are the demographics? You need to know who would be the best people in your business. You don't want Joe Schmo who you found meandering on a nearby street. Break it down and gear up your strategy for your target market.

3. Growing daily: This really ties in the 2 points listed above. Whether it's a little leap or a huge stride, your business should be growing daily. When you're doing the right things, you should see this happening. If you're NOT, then you need to start changing up your approach.

We also mentioned that it takes brawn to run a business. You can't be a wimp. You have to be a go getter and willing to punch your way through every obstacle because, trust me, there are many. You also need to be able to take the right hooks of rejection and the upper cuts of disgruntled people.

4. Right Hooks of Rejection: It never feels good to be hit in the face. It stings and bruises. More importantly, it takes a toll on your self-esteem. Rejection can often feel the same way. Nobody likes to hear the word no. But hey, if you put yourself out there, it's going to happen. So, man-up, take the punch, and move on.

5. Upper Cuts of Disgruntled People: That upper cut gets you right under the chin and can knock you back. Disgruntled people seem to have the same affect. No matter where you go, these people are EVERYWHERE. They always seem to be miffed about something and your strongest efforts will NEVER make them happy. So, like I said, man-up, take the punch, and move on.
